The Private Hill

About

The Private Hill (www.theprivatehill.co.uk) is a destination. Somewhere to leave the real world behind and to immerse yourself in pure indulgence, in the privacy of stunning nature. Helmsley, the Wolds, Pickering and Pocklington are just some of the wonders that are nearby, and well worth exploring, as well as the incredibly beautiful city of York which is only 25 mins away.

Enjoy all the benefits of this breathtaking setting, with views for miles, but without the need to put your wellies on - unless you want to! Watch the home bred pedigree Aberdeen Angus cattle lazily graze the lush grass, or the sheep as they busy themselves around the farm, all from the safety and comfort of your own little piece of North Yorkshire. The farm hosts superb geodesic domes, each named after one of its own prized pedigree Aberdeen Angus cattle. Every dome is just like a room you would expect to find in a 5 star boutique hotel with sumptuously comfortable twin, or super king beds (your choice on booking), luxury sheets and duvets, a choice of pillows and of course a stocked minibar fridge with a small freezer too.

A maximum of two adults can be accommodated in each dome, plus up to two children who have a choice of either rather cool hanging 'cocoon' style beds (max.age 8) or a comfy two seater sofa bed for those a little older and taller. Inside is a gorgeous wood burning stove, a small kitchenette with a Nespresso coffee machine and Miele microwave oven, plus access to Sonos streamed music. You'll find views that stretch for over 60 miles when you open your curtains on a fine day.

Facilities inside the domes are also fully en-suite and self contained. Each dome also has full access to Jane's Dome which offers a chill out space with daily newspapers, cafe meals, drinks and nibbles, plus afternoon tea. There's a small shop area selling carefully selected local brands and products - including the farm's own steaks and famous cakes!

When staying within this glam retreat, you'll be able to enjoy numerous nearby activities and attractions to suit all the family. You might find that the team surprise the children with trips to collect fresh eggs for your breakfast, a ride on a big green tractor or a slightly smaller, and often rather dirtier, green quad bike - just to light up their faces!

Explore the farm, discover the wildlife, talk to the pet sheep or admire the massive pedigree Aberdeen Angus bulls from a safe distance. Farm visits can be arranged free of charge for guests and last for around an hour. They give you and your children an opportunity to get up close to the animals, under strict supervision, and to appreciate how high welfare and a calm environment provide the animals with ideal living conditions. It's a working farm so depending on the time of year you visit you may be able to bottle feed lambs or watch spindly baby calves take their very first steps!

This spot is particularly suited to those that have a natural love for animals and enjoy being able to interact with them - visiting farmers are often astonished how calm the farm's livestock are. Perhaps it's as a result of kind and compassionate management and a happy and comfortable place for them to live?

Jane's Dome is also the place where you can enjoy a fabulous North Yorkshire breakfast, be tempted by delicious cafe offerings or perhaps a full afternoon cream tea. In the evening, cook up the farm's own juicy steaks on the communal BBQ accompanied by a yummy home made salad.

There are some excellent local pubs within walking distance from the farm, each offering delicious food, and fabulous local beers. The team will even drop you off and collect you after your meal if you'd like.

Or if you'd like to go under your own steam, bring your mountain bike and go off into the lanes (but watch out for the tractors at harvest time!) or book a horse at the nearby riding stables. And if you've enjoyed a glass or two whilst watching the spectacular sunset from your very own private decking area why not just read a book and feel at one with the world.

When you've had enough of that and need to get out and about there's Flamingo Land, Eden Camp, Castle Howard, the outstandingly beautiful town of Malton or, slightly further afield, the seaside resorts of Scarborough and Whitby. Malton Food Festival is not to be missed and a visit to some of the truly fabulous local food shops are an absolute must before heading home.

The site remains open year round.
