About us

Visit England 4 star rated Bed and Breakfast Guest House, elegant Edwardian accommodation in the beautiful city of York. Family owned and managed.

Mark and Louise look forward to offering you a friendly warm welcome and will ensure they do everything to enable you to have a relaxed, comfortable stay. Nine well appointed, individually decorated en-suite rooms, a relaxing Guest Lounge and welcoming Breakfast room, where you can enjoy an awarded breakfast, with a great service, all make Blakeney House the perfect place to stay during your visit to York.

Situated in a leafy residential area, just 7 minutes by bus or 20 minutes on foot with views of the Minster to the historic York City walls and attractions. Also within easy reach of the Yorkshire countryside, on the Coastliner bus route which visits Pickering Scarborough and Whitby ( ideal if you have a bus pass!). We are also ideally situated for York University and St John University, as well as Heworth Golf Club and the new Vanguard Centre with John Lewis.

York is steeped in history and boasts wonderful walks, great shopping, restaurants and bars, two theatres, horse racing, the famous Minster, National Railway Museum, the Castle Muesum and many other world class attractions and events.

Rooms are all en-suite and contain flat screen T.V. with freeview, soft white towels, a well stocked hospitality tray and complimentry toiletries. Rooms include a Superior, doubles, twins, & family as well as disabled friendly ground floor room. Blakeney House is ideal for business trips, leisure breaks or longer stay to get away from it all. We offer one night stays during the week and welcome cyclists (situated on the east side of York ideal for the 'Way of the Roses'). Secure lock up for bikes is available.

LARGE PRIVATE ON SITE PARKING is available for up to 9 cars (free to our Guests).

Free WiFi access available throughout.

Road Directions


Approaching York from the South:

• Follow the A1 North or M1 North (via A1 Link) to where they join the A64 Leeds - York/Scarborough road.

• Take the A64 towards York/Scarborough.

• Follow the A64 York Bypass for approximately 19 miles ignoring all signs and
slip roads for York (i.e. go past slip roads signed A1237, A1036, A19, A166/A1079) and continue until you come up to the traffic lights at the first roundabout on theA64.

• At the traffic lights take the left hand exit lane, signed A1036 York. Keep in this lane.

• At the next set of traffic lights (approx. 150 metres), keep in the left hand approach lane and take the first exit, signed A1036 York

• Take the first left turn (after approx. 300 metres) just before the 'Hopgrove Pub & Toby Carvery' into Hopgrove Lane South, signed Hopgrove and Stockton-on-Forest.

• At the first T junction, turn right, signed York - this is Stockton Lane. Blakeney Guest House is on the left after one and a half miles.

Approaching York from the North:

• Follow the A1(M) South to where it joins the A59 Harrogate - York road.

• Take the A59 towards York until you reach the A1237.

• Turn left (first exit) onto the A1237 York Outer Ring Road, signed Scarborough and Malton.

• Follow A1237 towards Scarborough (going straight on at several roundabouts) until you reach traffic lights at a roundabout where the third exit is signed A1036 York. Take the A1036 towards York.

• Follow the last two paragraphs in the Section above - 'Approaching York from the South'.

Approaching from York City Centre:

• Take A1036 Malton Road north (signed A64 Scarborough) from the City Walls near Monkbar Gate, along Monkgate. Go straight over the first roundabout (second exit) into Heworth Green.

• At the next roundabout, take the right hand approach lane and go straight over (second exit) into Stockton Lane. Blakeney Guest House is on the right hand side after half a mile.
