Avondale Guest House

Avondale Guest House York enjoys a many wonderful reviews from our fabulous guests, we have recently been awarded a ROSE award for Recognition Of Service Excellence which we are very proud of, over the years we have also retained a three star silver and a breakfast award from Visit England.

Situated along the much loved Bishy Road, with it's quirky shops and cafe culture we are very close to the ancient city walls on the south side of the city. We offer homely, comfortable en suite accommodation and a hearty choice of breakfast menu you choose what you eat and we will cater for all your dietary requirements. We take great pride in our friendliness and informality so should you wish for anything special in your room on arrival or whilst you are staying with us please just ask.

We are just a short walk or taxi ride from the train/bus station and by car from any of York's approach roads, just let us know how your travelling and we will provide a permit to park your vehicle on arrival.

A few minutes away from the ancient city walls and Skeldergate Bridge, it is a gentle, scenic stroll to the city centre to all the major visitor attractions or cross the road to Rowntrees park and wander along the river.  In the other direction we are close to the famous Knavesmire racecourse for those who love their racing and where many large events are held.

Public Transport Directions

Arriving by train or bus couldn’t be easier with direct services available from most parts of Britain and from many of the main airports and ferry terminals.

Once you get here the walk to Avondale will take around 10 – 15 minutes by just following the ancient city walls - As you exit the railway station turn right and walk south over the bridge, keeping the city walls on your left, follow the road around and up the hill to the traffic lights. Keep walking forward and take the crossing over this busy junction (if you look to your left you will see Micklegate Bar), then continue down Nunnery Lane, staying on the pavement to the right hand side of the road (the city walls will be on your left), as you reach the end of Nunnery Lane turn right and walk along past the shops. Going on past the car park to your right and cross at the traffic lights where there is a Sainsburys on the corner. Keeping Sainsburys to your right walk on up the hill just past the bus stop and Avondale Guest House is on your right.
