A ‘Bloom-ing’ good opportunity to get involved!

There’s still chance to get involved in Bloom! York’s first horticultural festival, which will see the streets of York brought to life with plants, flowers and colour this July.

Bloom! is taking place over four days from 5 – 8 July 2018, and it is a festival that will celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the Ancient Society of York Florists, as well as being a wider celebration of York’s horticultural heritage and the rich and varied activity that takes place across the city today. It will take in York’s little-known gardens, its public parks as well as the parks, gardens and nurseries outside of the city. It will offer a link to horticulture for every audience type and every age-group.

Bloom! is calling upon all businesses, organisations and community groups to embrace this exciting new festival and to start thinking about ways in which they can add to the events and initiatives that have already been planned. Whether it’s the hanging of a basket outside your premises, a new window box, a potted tree by the door and something more ambitious – a themed display, exhibition or menu, we’d love as many people to get involved as possible. A window dressing competition set to be judged by celebrity florist Simon Lycett, will be launched next month and information will be sent out in due course detailing exactly how you can take part.

No matter how small the gesture, every addition to the festival and the celebrations taking place will have an impact on someone and this is the true joy of Bloom! So, please do get your thinking caps on and let us know what you are planning.
