York Festival of Ideas

York’s Festival of Ideas will 'take over' York between 12 and 22 June with a theme of 'Order and Chaos'. Support the festival by linking to the website and following Twitter @yorkfestofideas and encouraging your friends and clients to participate.

More than 140 events will take place at venues across the city and the University of York campus (a five minute bus ride away) and many events are free. York Festival of Ideas has a variety of events, attracting internationally renowned authors, scientists, commentators, academics and performers. This year’s theme is 'Order and Chaos' and incorporates events exploring war and peace, scientific discovery, music, crime writing, the mysterious nature of the brain, Britain's trading history, the ancient world of Rome and Greece, architecture, health, Anglo-Saxon York, arts and society as well as a raft of events for children, to name just a few. Headline speakers include Jung Chang, Anthony Horowitz, Marek Kikula, James Rubin, Lyse Doucet, Gavin Esler, Martin Hagglund, Simon Armitage, Michael Morpurgo, Blake Morrison, Gillian Clarke and many more. The Festival is supported by The Holbeck Trust, Quorn Foods, Shepherd's Group, alumni donations and has media partnerships with Yorkshire Life, Prospect Magazine and Radio 4's Food Programme.
