GDPR Workshop
Thursday 23 November, 10:00 – 13:00
National Centre for Early Music, St Margaret’s Church, (off Walmgate)

The biggest change in data protection law in a generation is nearly here. On 25 May 2018 the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will replace the current Data Protection Act 1998. GDPR gives new rights to individuals and strengthens their existing rights in relation to how you collect, use and store their personal data. Furthermore, GDPR introduces a new accountability principle for businesses to actively demonstrate their compliance.

With less than 6 months to go until GDPR becomes directly applicable in the UK, it is important you know what your new obligations are in relation to processing personal data and what measures you need to take to get your business ready to be compliant as of 25 May 2018.

This workshop will help you understand what GDPR is and will look at, in particular:

  • your new obligations under the ‘accountability principle’
  • outsourcing of personal data processing – contracts and responsibilities & liabilities
  • how to obtain consent to process personal data under GDPR

Also attending the workshop will be the team from Kashing – the payment management system handling all Guestlink transactions.
Karen and Neil will be on hand to answer questions and update you on being PCI compliant.

Visit York Tourism Conference

17 January 2018, York Racecourse

The Digital Age has already changed the way we shop, work and play. But what effect is it having on how we plan our travel purchases, how we welcome our visitors and how we maximise new technologies to benefit York and Yorkshire’s tourism sector?

• How are digital and social media influencing the visitor journey?
• How can you turn online engagement into revenue?
• How can your business capitalise on Visit York’s campaigns?
• What are tomorrow’s marketing techniques?
• Upping our game – how can York offer the world’s best welcome?
• The ‘halo’ effect – how do cities make a success of it?

All these questions and more will be debated at the annual Visit York Tourism Conference. The conference is an essential event for anyone working in tourism or its associated sectors. The 2018 conference will focus on how, working together, we can capitalise on new opportunities in this Digital Age.
