York’s Tourism Businesses – one step closer to victory
Finalists Announced in Visit York Tourism Awards

65 of York’s top tourism businesses will be celebrating today as they receive the news they are on the shortlist in the Visit York annual Tourism Awards. Winners will be announced at a prestigious Black Tie awards ceremony on 3 June in the Grand Station Hall of the National Railway Museum, compered by breakfast show hosts Gayle Lofthouse and Ben Fry from Minster FM radio station.

The Visit York Tourism Awards celebrate individuals and companies who offer that extra special service and experience for York’s 6.7 million visitors. Now in their 18th year, these awards recognise excellence in the city’s tourism sector. The event is expected to be attended by five hundred tourism businesses, as well as the Right Honourable Lord Mayor of York.

A new category this year is the best Family Friendly Experience and Visit York will launch a nationwide Twitter campaign, to help decide on the nation’s favourite York family experience. Going head to head in this category are: Jorvik; DIG; Novotel; The Web Adventure Park; York Maze; York Racecourse and Yorkshire's Winter Wonderland.

Speaking of the Finalists Kate McMullen, Head of Visit York said, ‘For our tourism sector to be successful York needs exceptional people and this is what these awards recognise and celebrate. We congratulate all of our finalists and wish them all the very best of luck.’
This year’s title of York Tourism Ambassador will be kept a closely guarded secret until June 3rd and will be handed on from Sarah Maltby, Director of Attractions for The JORVIK Group, who was honoured with the title at last year’s awards.
