News release - Issued by Yorkshire's Winter Wonderland

Yorkshire's Winter Wonderland Extends its Season to 10th January 2016

Tickets Now on Sale for New Dates

The three time award-winning Christmas event – Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland has announced today that it will extend its season to 10th January 2016.

Following Storm Desmond and one of the wettest December’s York has ever experienced, the organisers of Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland will keep the event open for a further seven days in 2016 to allow customers who have not had the chance to come and experience The Ice Factor outdoor ice rink and the traditional funfair.

“We have been closed an unprecedented number of days this year and have had many customers disappointed that they have not been able to come and enjoy the event. Whilst we make every effort to stay open, 67mph winds and unseasonal high temperatures reaching a recorded 18.2 degrees on the rink has meant that we have lost a lot of ice and haven’t been able to open every day,” explains Maria Farrugia of Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, organiser of the event.

“By extending our season until 10th January, we are hoping that those skaters who haven’t yet been, will have an extra seven days to get down to York Designer Outlet…if you’ve overeaten at Christmas or have a New Year’s resolution to get healthy again, an hour’s skate round the rink will certainly help (and burns 350 calories!),” she added.

During the final week, The Ice Factor will be open as follows:

Monday 4th January: as many York schools are closed for a training day the rink will be open all day from 9.30am until 9.15pm, with the last skating session commencing at 8.15pm.

Tuesday 5th - Friday 8th January: from 3.30pm until 9.15pm, with last session at 8.15pm.

Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th January: all day from 9.30am until 9.15pm, with last session at 8.15pm.

Not only will the ice rink remain open until 10th January, but the funfair and rinkside café will too. Opening hours for the funfair will be:

Monday 4th January: 11.00am until 8.15pm.

Tuesday 5th - Friday 6th January: 3.30pm until 8.15pm.

Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th January: 11.00am until 8.15pm.

Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland is home to the north of England’s largest and best-loved outdoor ice rink – The Ice Factor. With its giant 30ft high Christmas tree, the rink is nestled in a magical setting of twinkling lights, making for the perfect festive outing.

The Alpine-themed café – PapaKitchen at The Ice Factor – offers an après-skate ambience of rustic wooden tables and benches complete with cosy furs and the warming scent of Glühwein. Serving delicious homemade fare – including hot dogs with Scandi-relish, nachos and sweet treats – with a licensed bar serving mulled wine, ales and hot chocolate, PapaKitchen at The Ice Factor is the perfect place for post-skating or shopping relaxation.

This year the funfair unveils two stunning vintage children’s rides – Muffin the Mule and Hush Hush the train – making their first appearance since a complete restoration by local craftspeople. In addition adults and children can enjoy an exhilarating ride on the 1936 Speedway, which was also restored to its former splendour three years ago. With modern fun fair rides and traditional games stalls offering prizes galore, there is lots of fun to be had at the fair.

The Ice Factor will be open daily until Sunday 10th January 2016, with tickets for a one-hour skating session priced at £10.45 for adults and £9.45 for children. This year new family packages have been introduced catering to families of three, four or five people. Special packages are also available for parties, schools, clubs and youth groups, with discounts applying to groups of 20 or more.

To avoid disappointment, booking is recommended for skating at The Ice Factor, as well as for visits to Santa’s Grotto. Tickets for both, as well as tickets for the funfair, can also be purchased on site. For full details of prices and times please visit, join us on Facebook and Twitter or call 01653 619169.
