Hotel Indigo York Chooses York's Chocolate Story to Sweeten up Guests Visiting the UK's Home of Chocolate

Hotel Indigo York, on Walmgate, the city’s thriving foodie destination and the birthplace of York’s chocolate making empire, will be working with York Chocolate Story to offer visitors an authentic taste of Britain’s chocolate heritage.

The soon to open 101 room boutique hotel is partnering with one of York’s most popular attractions to offer visitors leisure deals to include chocolate making workshops and guided tours, taking them on a journey through York’s rich chocolate history.

Mike Sweeting, Hotel Manager for Hotel Indigo York said: “The design and décor of our new hotel pays homage to the neighbourhood’s chocolate heritage including the story of Rowntree’s (the famous English confectioner started life in this neighbourhood in 1725) - so it makes perfect sense for us to work with York’s Chocolate Story to keep this local legacy alive.”

Nikki Jacobs, General Manager at York’s Chocolate Story says:”It’s exciting to be working with the first Hotel Indigo for York which is aptly located right in the heart of York’s chocolate heritage. We look forward to welcoming new guests to our vibrant attraction where the chocolate story lives on.”

The story of York’s chocolate heritage dates back over 200 years when Mary Tuke opened up her grocery shop (1725) on Walmgate, rebelling against the might of The Merchant Adventurers Company. Tuke’s nephew William later sold the grocery business to Henry Isaac Rowntree in 1862. The rest is history.

Travellers visiting York this summer can book a two-night ‘Chocolate Package’ from 30 July which will include tickets to the York’s Chocolate Story.

A short walk from the Hotel Indigo York, Continuum Heritage Attraction York’s Chocolate Story is located in the heart of York on Kings Square, is an entertaining and informative guided tour through the history of York’s most famous chocolate-making families and their finest creations. Visitors can discover chocolate’s origins, how to make it, how to taste it like an expert and even the sustainable future of chocolate.
