Enjoy a FREE Family Day in the Dales

People from across the UK are invited to join Yorkshire-based national charity Heart Research UK and Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority's Three Peaks Project for a family Day in the Dales event on 18 June.

Set within the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, this FREE event gives families plenty of fun and activities while raising money to fund research into the prevention, treatment and cure of heart disease - as well as maintaining the Three Peaks path for future generations.

As part of the Day in the Dales walkers can also sign up for Heart Research UK’s 20th Yorkshire Three Peaks sponsored event to climb Pen-y-ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside

Heart Research UK is keen to get families being active together as around 80% of 5-15 year olds in England fail to meet the current physical activity recommendations and 27% of UK adults do not achieve even 30 minutes of exercise each week.

At the Day in the Dales event there’s something for everyone including traditional sports like tug-of-war, skipping, sack and egg and spoon races as well as country stalls, local produce, and fairground rides. Cream teas and ice creams will bring even more summer to the event.

There’s a 5K nature trail designed to get children excited about countryside and woodland walks, encouraging them to note the sights and sounds around the village, learn about nature and to keep an eye out for house martins and woodpeckers.

Barbara Harpham, National Director at Heart Research UK said: “Day in the Dales will be a great day out, giving families the opportunity to get out of the city and get active while enjoying a great day out in the countryside. There's also a sports day for kids; challenges; stalls and games, as well as rides and nature exhibits. Our 5K Nature Trail gets families walking, finding, collecting and learning.”

Money raised at the Day in the Dales will be spent on helping hearts near you and to protect the Three Peaks paths for generations to come. Heart Research UK ask people to raise money by getting sponsored for the 5K Nature Trail.

On the same date, and at the same location, Heart Research UK’s flagship fundraiser – the ‘Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge’ is back. Now in its twentieth year, this 25-mile walk provides spectacular scenery and gets the heart pumping. The challenge covers three of the highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales - Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. The charity now needs as many people as possible to do one, two or even three peaks.

Barbara Harpham, added: “The Yorkshire Three Peaks walk is an exciting, active, outdoor challenge that everyone can enjoy. It’ll keep you fit and healthy and will help raise money for pioneering research into heart disease.

“Whether you walk alone, with your friends or family you’ll love a great day out in the spectacular Yorkshire Dales, joining hundreds of other walkers.”
