News release - Issued by York Minster

Countdown to Christmas begins as Minster’s Carol Concert tickets go on sale

Tickets for York Minster’s 2017 Christmas Carol Concerts – the most popular events in the cathedral’s calendar – will go on sale next week.

In previous years, nearly half the tickets available for the concerts have sold on the first day of sales, with the most highly sought after seats at the front of the Nave often selling out within the first two hours.

Tickets for this year’s concerts, which take place on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 December at 7pm, will go on sale on Tuesday 26 September at 10am. The tickets will be available from the Box Office at York Theatre Royal, the Minster’s ticketing partner for the event.

Commenting on the release of the tickets, Robert Sharpe, Director of Music at York Minster, said:

“The Christmas Carol Concerts are an important festive tradition with many people returning year after year. With just under three months to go before the concerts we’re already fielding enquiries for this much-loved event.

“This year’s concerts will feature celebrity readers performing seasonal poetry and readings, as well as classical and traditional Christmas music sung by the full York Minster Choir, with the Yorkshire Volunteers Band leading the audience in Christmas carols.”

Tickets for both concerts will go on sale on Tuesday 26 September at 10am. Tickets are priced at £25, £18 and £12 and are available from the York Theatre Royal Box Office by phone 01904 623568, online, or in person at the theatre in St Leonard’s Place, YO1 7HD. The Box Office is open Mondays from 10am-5pm and Tuesday-Saturday 10am-8pm (on non-show days or until 6pm on show days). Please note that a booking fee of £1.50 is payable for all transactions apart from cash payments in person at the Box Office.

The concerts are part of a busy programme of services, events and activities at York Minster during Advent and Christmas including the Advent Procession on 3 December, a performance of Handel’s Messiah by the York Minster Choir on 9 December, two performances of The Snowman, which visits the cathedral for the first time on 16 December and the popular Nine Lessons and Carols services on 22 and 24 December .
