About us

Well-informed but informal, entertaining and engaging, Yorktour is the city's longest-established walking tour company and has been welcoming visitors of all nationalities for over forty years. We provide guiding services for private individuals, tour groups and school parties in a range of languages including French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian and Mandarin. We also also offer tours in clear, uncomplicated English expressly designed for language students and anyone for whom English is not their first language.

Our itineraries are devised to suit the time available and interests of each visitor, but would typically include:

The medieval Shambles and Snickelways

The ancient city walls

The Roman fortress and medieval abbey ruins of the Museum Gardens

York Minster (all Yorktour guides are accredited Minster guides and authorised to take groups inside the cathedral, subject to entrance fee).

Yorktour guides are passionate about the place we live in and will take you right to the heart of this unique city. We’re not lecturers - we’re locals - and are more than happy to offer tips and advice on the many shops, restaurants and other attractions you may wish to visit during your stay.

We endeavour to meet all accessibility needs and can provide level access/wheelchair friendly routes if required.

Get in touch at and we'll help you gain maximum impact from this magnificent city!

‘Your tour was really enjoyable, genuinely interesting, coherent and funny at the same time with everything coming nicely together. Despite the rather adverse weather all the guests loved it and have asked me to pass on their thanks. So, once again many thanks for a very special experience and please rest assured that myself and my colleagues will have no reservations in recommending your company wholeheartedly….’

Department of Health Sciences, University of York
