About us

White Rose York Tours, we provide a free three hour tour that is like stepping back through all of England's history. For two thousand years, York has been at the centre of the nation's affairs, and our self-employed guides will bring that history to life in an entertaining and ery informative way as they lead you through lush parks and narrow lanes, past grand churches and palaces, by ruined castles and abbeys and along the historic city walls.

Our tours run in both the English and Spanish languages. No need to book, just turn up 10 to 15 minutes early and tell us which language you would like.

Our walking tour includes
York minster and the Liberty of St Peter
City Walls and Gatehouses
St Mary's Abbey and the Museum Gardens
The Shambles
Clifford's Tower and the Castle Museum
Roman and Viking Invasions
Catholic Saints and Martyrs
English Kings and Queens
Dick Turpin and the truth about the moonlight ride

Our tours commence everyday come rain or shine throughout the year at 11am, outside the West Entrance of York Minster. We also have tours at 3pm April to October, and at 1pm on Fridays and Saturdays November to March. Just look for our guides in the distinctive White Rose York tee-shirts.

Road Directions

Tours commence from close to the West Entrance of York Minster, on the wide pavement opposite Cafe Concerto.

The tour start point is a short walk from the bus stops at Exhibition Square or outside Museum Gardens, which are served by many bus outes. York Railway Station is around half a mile distant on a direct route. Simply follow the city walls and cross the Lendal Bridge, and the Minster is directly ahead of you.

Accessible by Public Transport: York station is 0 miles away.
