York Gin Company

About us

Our gins

All of the York Gin Company’s spirits are hand-made in the city. They are the very first gins from York.

York Gin

We use traditional methods to make our classic dry gin in our beautiful copper still named Ebor, after the Roman name for York, Eboracum.

Our classic dry gin is exceptionally smooth, meaning it can be sipped neat over ice as well as being ideal for classic G&Ts and cocktails. It was awarded a Silver Medal in the Spirits Business Gin Masters 2018, and was shortlisted for three awards at the Gin Awards 2018.

Traditionally, gin makers keep the exact botanicals secret. But we are happy to share that our dry gin includes black pepper, cardamom and grains of paradise, as well as a combination of classic botanicals including angelica and orris root. Plus, of course, filtered Yorkshire water.

York Gin Cocoa

York Gin Cocoa combines in a unique distillation our award-winning dry gin with the finest cocoa beans from the award-winning York Cocoa Works. The result is a subtle but unmistakable nose of the most divine chocolate elements soaring above the gin’s more traditional botanicals. A complex and satisfying gin with a unique rich element of cocoa.

York Gin Roman Fruit

We’ve plundered Ancient Roman Britain to bring history to life with our very first fruit-infused gin - our classic dry gin is infused with flora and fauna associated with Ancient Rome.

After distillation, we infuse our dry gin with a Yorkshire-made tea infusion that includes berries, apples, strawberry and hibiscus - all associated with our Roman friends of old. The deep colour of the infused gin is a nod to the imperial purple. Roman history professors Mary Beard and Catharine Edwards helped with our website article - and gave positive reviews of the fruit gin afterwards.

York Gin celebrates the city’s long history and association with cats on its label - with a hand-drawn picture of the walls and a black cat.

The iconic font is a revival of 17th Century ‘Fell Fonts’ - widely used in print at the time of the 18th Century Gin Craze.

So there’s a nod to York’s medieval past in the label. A bottle of York Gin also feels perfectly contemporary with its strong square, weighty design.

You can buy our gins in four different bottles to take home 5cl, 20cl, 50cl and 70cl. Or try our gins in many of York’s wonderful pubs, bars, restaurants and hotels.
