About

COVID-19 Information

From 0.01am on December 31st, York is in a Tier 3 area. The rules of Tier 3 state that tourism activities which take place entirely outdoors are still permitted, however all hotels and guest houses will be shut and people are discouraged from entering or exiting the area except for work. As such, we have decided that during the period of Tier 3 restrictions (the next review will be on January 13th), our tours will be available by advance booking only.

Tours will continue to be bookable at 11am each day and 1pm on Fridays and Saturdays. We may also be flexible on timings as most days we do not anticipate having any large numbers of bookings. Although not yet announced, it seems likely that the Museum Gardens will be closed to the public during this period so the tours will be of shorter duration due to this.

Please contact us by phone or text on 07792 207679 or email whiteroseyorktours@gmail.com if you would like to book a tour.

We have made changes to our operating principles in order to ensure that our tours can be run safely during these trying times. This includes changing the route of our tour to ensure that we only perform stops in outdoor areas where social distancing is possible. As a result our tours are currently running at around 2 hours rather than the usual 3.

As of September 14th, the government have introduced the new “rule of six”, meaning that social gatherings can be of a maximum of six persons. Guided tours are among the exceptions to this rule, and so we will be continuing to operate our tours, although it does mean that we cannot accept groups of larger than six persons, and we must ask that those groups do not interact.

The government guidelines relating to our situation can be found here. The relevant paragraph, updated on September 25th, relating to our particular situation is as follows:

“If it is possible to ensure that groups of more than six (or larger if they are from one household) do not mingle on a guided tour, it can go ahead. People must stay in their own group at all times throughout the tour. Tours may take place indoors or outdoors provided businesses undertake risk assessments in line with this guidance document and put any necessary mitigations in place.”

We have completed a risk assessment, the results of which can be found here: https://whiteroseyork.com/covid-19-information/ As a result of this risk assessment we have been granted the Visit Britain “Good to Go” status to show our Covid-19 compliance.

We will however need to be very strict in staying within the terms of this risk assessment. It also means that we cannot, under any circumstances, accept groups of more than six people on our tours and we will be limiting numbers on the tour overall,

Please note that because we have changed the route of the tour to avoid indoor and enclosed spaces, the tour time is now two hours rather than the previous three.
