With picturesque villages, the Yorkshire Dales , stately homes and gardens, the  North York Moors, a stunning coast line, traditional markets towns, the lovely spa town of Harrogate, spectacular castles and abbeys, the historic city of York ... there is so much to see and enjoy.



North Yorkshire is the largest county in England - it’s classified as 74% rural and covers 3,341 square miles with around 40% covered by National Parks. With spectacular wide open spaces including the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, it offers peace and tranquility with an opportunity to re connect with nature. We offer both private walking tours of York and chauffeur guided tours of Yorkshire. Walking tours are 2-3 hours. Chauffeur guided tours are normally either half a day or a full day. This service is totally flexible and can be tailored to individual requirements. We also offer tours throughout the UK.


Based in rural North Yorkshire, Howard Smelt-Webb is from a farming background - the famous vet, James Herriot ( Alf Wight ) used to be the vet for the family farm.

A former police officer in North Yorkshire, he and his team have lived and worked throughout Yorkshire all their lives and would like to share their knowledge of the county with you. From major tourist attractions to hidden Yorkshire, country pubs to tea rooms, farm shops to boutique shops, from scenic walks to spectacular views of Yorkshire - they know where to go to make your day extra special.


Tour examples :


A tour of Wensleydale and Swaledale - visit the World Heritage site of Fountains Abbey with beautiful gardens, Abbey and picturesque deer park. Travel part of the 2014 Tour de France route taking in stunning views as you go through Wensleydale towards Middleham. Visit spectacular Bolton Castle and enjoy the natural beauty of Aysgarth Falls situated in a lovely wooded gorge. Enjoy amazing scenery as you travel over the top of the hills into Swaledale. Go shopping in Richmond with its cobbled streets and Norman fortress. Visit the World of James Herriot museum in Thirsk. Take in afternoon tea by the fire or overlooking the stunning gardens at Goldsborough Hall near Knaresborough. 


Travel through the Howardian Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Visit the vibrant market town of Helmsley for morning coffee at the historic coaching inn, The Black Swan Hotel. Options include a browse around the individual boutique type shops or a visit to the medieval castle. Take in Rievaulx Abbey before travelling towards the pretty village of Hutton le Hole for a taste of the North York Moors with stunning views of Yorkshire and beyond. Lunch options include the award winning Pheasant Hotel in Harome. Visit Castle Howard - built in the 17th century, it is one of Britain's finest stately homes. With the historic house, wonderful formal gardens including lakes and waterways, a walled garden, restaurants, shops and more - there is so much to see and do.


Explore picturesque Yorkshire villages. Visit the traditional market town of Helmsley for morning coffee.Travel onto St Gregory’s Minster - an Anglo Saxon church in Kirkdale before heading across to the North York Moors. Enjoy the amazing scenery of Farndale, Bransdale and Rosedale before dropping down into Goathland - home of the popular ‘ Heartbeat ‘ TV series. The railway station here was featured in a recent Harry Potter film. Onto the coastal town of Whitby where you can visit the Abbey first founded in the 7th century, look around the independent shops in the old part of the town or walk along the pier enjoying the lovely coastal views before having fish and chips at The Star Inn the Harbour.


The Yorkshire Tour Guide has teamed up with well known Yorkshire racehorse trainer, Bryan Smart and can now offer a bespoke tour of his racehorse stables. Bryan trains approximately fifty horses from his historic stables at Hambleton House at Sutton Bank on the edge of the North York Moors. He has trained the winners of 17 Group and Listed races including three consecutive wins at Royal Ascot and a Group one win at the 2018 Nunthorpe  Stakes at York with Alpha Delphini. Enjoy a tour with Bryan or a member of his staff - going round the horses, stables and training facilities. Then watch the horses being exercised on the nearby gallops. Hear about the history connected to this famous 17th century racing yard whilst having a cup of coffee or Yorkshire Tea in the lovely farmhouse kitchen. This authentic tour experience can be added to a visit to the traditional market town of Helmsley, lunch at the award winning Star Inn at Harome or a visit to the beautiful North York Moors. Howard was a police officer in York for thirty years and has an intimate knowledge of the city and its’ hidden gems. Enjoy a bespoke walking tour of this historic city which has so many layers of history connected to it. Imagine you’re a Roman or a Viking as you explore narrow cobbled streets, the ruins of St Mary’s Abbey in Museum Gardens, The Shambles where buildings date back to the 14th century and the beautiful street called Stonegate. Discover the splendour of York Minster and the fascinating history of Clifford’s Tower. Take a walk along the city walls enjoying the spectacular views as you go. Stop off for morning coffee or Afternoon Tea at the famous Betty’s Cafe Tea Rooms ( optional ) - we’ll wait in the queue whilst you browse round the shops !  Our walking tours are totally flexible and can be tailored to what you would like to see and do.




Be chauffeur driven in one of our vehicles - we have a wide range available to suit your individual needs including saloon cars and multi seat vehicles. Uniquely, the multi seat vehicles can come with both a driver and a separate Tour guide if required - this ensures you get the most out of your day.



Bespoke private walking tours of York are from £20 per person for a 2-3 hour tour. Discount is available for larger groups.

Chauffeur guided tours of Yorkshire start from £260 for a full day tour ( normally at least eight hours ) - this is for the car with a driver / guide. So if there were four passengers that would work out at only £65 per person. Prices vary depending on type and availability of vehicles.
