Castle Howard Arboretum
About Us
The Castle Howard Arboretum is 120 acres of peace and tranquility in the heart of North Yorkshire. Created in the 1970s, today it is home to over 7,000 trees from around the globe and a magnificent place to see trees, plants, flowers and wildlife.
Discover stunning landscapes filled with trees from temperate regions around the world, peaceful lakes, hidden woodland glades and wildflower meadows. Relax after exploring with delicious seasonal food and refreshments in the Arboretum café and browse the shop for unique gifts to remember your visit.
The Castle Howard Arboretum is home to one of the UK’s most successful Red Squirrel breeding programmes. Since the programme started in 2023, 15 kits have been born and have gone on to partner breeding programmes, and into the wild at suitable locations in Wales.
Dogs on leads are welcome in the Arboretum, cafe and shop. There is an 11-acre off-lead area free to enter with your admission ticket, or for Members.
Group and coach visits are welcome by prior arrangement. An ideal choice for school trips, clubs and societies who wish to explore the Arboretum together.
