About us

Easily accessible and set within the 18th century kitchen garden of Scampston Hall, in North Yorkshire, the award-winning Scampston Walled Garden is a treat in store for your group. Created by internationally acclaimed plantsman, Piet Oudolf, for Sir Charles and Lady Legard, the four-acre Walled Garden is divided into nine separate and contrasting areas. Highlights include striking perennial-meadow planting, contemporary waves of grass, inspiring spring/autumn herbaceous borders and many unusual plants.

Scampston Hall itself, has been home to the same family since the 1600s, and was completely remodelled by Thomas Leverton in the Regency period to sit better in the then new 'Capability' Brown designed park. Now restored to its former glory, the Hall contains many fine paintings as well as collections of books, furniture and porcelain. Sir Charles, and his knowledgeable and entertaining guides, delight in welcoming visitors for guided tours of the family home for a short season during the early summer.

No visit would be complete without browsing the plant sales area which specialises in the species grown in the gardens and enjoying some refreshments in the light and airy Garden Restaurant which offers coffees, teas and lunches on a self-service basis and, for pre-booked groups, reserved seating.

Scampston is just off the A64 between York and Scarborough and 5 miles east of Malton and is an ideal destination for groups seeking a day out from York.

Group rates, free coach parking and other incentives are available to pre-booked parties of 15 or more people.
