About us

Inside the Italian-inspired house the grand rooms are a perfect backdrop for the rich collection of portraits from the National Portrait Gallery. Find out about the families and other people who have lived here including RAF aircrews and how they have all left their mark on the history of Beningbrough. Take in the temporary exhibitions in the Saloon Galleries which are changed annually.

Relax on the sunny restaurant terrace sampling food including the harvest from the walled garden or stroll among glorious borders with over 8 acres to explore. The year starts with the arrival of a carpet of colour along the ha-ha walk with the thousands of spring bulbs planted in 2016, quickly followed by blossom from the fruit trees and stunning tulips among the borders and west formal. Take a seat in the newly installed Pergola complete with white wisteria. Come high summer, the borders are bursting with colour right into autumn with dahlias looking striking through to the first frosts.

The wilderness play area and interactive galleries are popular with families, whatever the weather. There's a packed programme of events durin school holidays and during any visit your little ones can grab a bike or trike to venture around the gardens or pick up an explorer backpack from the hall to help them on their way.

Dogs Allowed

Starting this summer, dogs are allowed in Beningbrough Hall Gardens. Watch our video of a couple of dogs enjoying the picturesque gardens.

Leads: please keep your dog on a short (non-extendable) lead. At busy places like Beningbrough, extendable leads can cause injury to other visitors. Please help us keep everyone safe. If you don’t have a short lead we can lend you one.

Dog walking areas: you can enjoy most of the gardens, with the exception of the children’s wilderness play area and the walled garden where produce is grown for the restaurant. Dogs are welcome in admissions, the shop and the Brew House. Assistance dogs can go in all buildings. Download a map Dog free zones (PDF / 0.3MB) download or ask for a leaflet when you arrive.

Leaving your dog: for the comfort of your dog and everyone’s safety, please don’t tie up or leave your dog alone. If you need some help, just ask.

Dog waste: please pick up your dog’s poo and dispose of it in the bin. You’ll find one at the entrance of the walled garden opposite admissions and one in the corner of the car park near the path to the farm shop. If you run out of bags let us know as we have some.
