About us

Set in the Vale of York, within easy reach of Harrogate and Leeds, Beningbrough Hall is the perfect location for works from the National Portrait Gallery. Inside the Italian-inspired house you'll find the interactive galleries, Making Faces - 18th-Century Style, where you can discover history and portraiture, and even sit for a 21st-century digital portrait. The grand rooms are a perfect backdrop for the rich collection of portraits, featuring people who have made, and are making, British history and culture.

Outdoors, see what's in season in the working Victorian walled garden and stroll among luxurious Edwardian borders. The parkland is perfect for longer walks, with plenty of space and a play area for children to let off steam.

Beningbrough's series of interlocking gardens each offer their own distinct seasonal interest - from wildlife havens to colourful herbaceous borders - and are inspirational all year. There are walks through park and woodlands and beside the river with stunning views of the hall, as well as outdoor activities and natural play opportunities for families. Art workshops, dressing up, sculpture modelling and family house trails are also on offer, plus a full programme of events get a taste of servant life in the Victorian laundry.

Discounted rates for pre-booked groups of 15 or more including priority entry opportunities and tea & coffee on arrival. With on coach welcome and free entry and refreshment voucher for the driver, Beningbrough is the perfect venue for a group day out. Due to weight limited toll, coaches must arrive via A19.

Stay a bit longer as Lord and Lady of the manor in the beautiful surroundings of Beningbrough Hall in the self-catered holiday accommodation situated above the Victorian Laundry. With superb views of the surrounding countryside and exclusive out-of-hours access to the gardens and grounds, you can enjoy the city and escape to the country at the same time.
