About

Held in the heart of York, on Parliament Street, The Yorkshire Craft Festival will take place between 12-22 October 2023.

The festival will give space to regional designer makers and craft groups to celebrate the varied range of modern and traditional craft skills, our amazing region has to offer.

The Festival will play host to a variety of demonstrations and craft workshops designed to educate, inspire and give opportunity to budding crafters. Alongside the demonstration pop-up marquees we will be hosting our Made in Yorkshire craft show, showcasing some of the best arts and craft from around the region.

Demonstrations and Workshops

We have invited local groups and individuals to demonstrate their work.

Chimps Forge and Must Forge, two local blacksmiths who will be demonstrating their blacksmithing skills and offering workshops on creating your own metal rose.

The York & District Guild of Weaving, Spinning & Dyers will be demonstrating a variety of techniques.

A local ceramicist Natasha Jackson will be demonstrating throwing techniques as well as offering workshops and sessions for those interested in throwing a pot or painting a ceramic piece.

Wreath making and Floristry workshops and demonstrations will be hosted by Jemma at Riverbend Flowers.

Are you a school or college and want to get involved?

Made in Yorkshire will also be inviting local schools and colleges to get involved in the festival. We will be encouraging art teachers and students to create street art installations which we will put on display at the festival.

We will be supplying schools and colleges with a series of blank “discs” on which we will be encouraging their students to create a group of themed paintings- to showcase and celebrate young artistic talent!

Themes can be be anything they want: Sport? Pop Art? The Environment? Music? Nature?

Each installation will have a little blurb about the school, their students and what inspired their installation.

Are you a teacher looking to get your students involved? Email us at t.jarvis@madeinyorkshire.org.uk

Fancy taking part in a Yorkshire Craft Trail?

Our friends at Yorkshire Trails will be designing a FREE Yorkshire Craft Festival Treasure Trail which you can pick up from their pop up marquee at the festival. Explore the city and discover local art and crafts as part of this fun activity. The mix of directions, clues, puzzles and fun facts get children (and adults!) of all ages thinking !

Looking to take your creative passion to the next level?

Made in Yorkshire will be launching an art and design competition for the festival.

Are you a buddy artist or crafter? Are you studying at the moment or looking to take a hobby further? We are looking for anyone with a serious interest in taking their passion further to submit a piece of work for inclusion in the competition.

This can include anything from ceramics, photography, artwork, woodwork, sculpture, jewellery amongst others. All submitted pieces will be on display within the festival and we will be inviting an independent judge to award the best three designer makers.

The first three winners within the festival will be given the opportunity to take part in the Yorkshire Yuletide Village show, due to be held at the Guildhall-period 4 (11-17 Dec 2023) in the run up to Christmas. The winners will be given tuition and advice on how to prepare for the show and steps to start their craft business.

The Yorkshire Yuletide Village show is an excellent opportunity for those budding designer makers to display and sell their work to discerning Christmas shoppers coming to the show to discover unique gifts for their loved ones.
