Taking place from 11 to 24 June under the banner of ‘The Next Chapter’, the award-winning Festival offers over 150 FREE events to educate, entertain and inspire, including talks from world-class speakers, exhibitions, music, guided walks and family-friendly activities.
With topics ranging from archaeology to art, history to health, and politics to psychology, the Festival promises something for all ages and interests.
Join a plethora of renowned speakers and performers such as Oscar-winning film editor Joe Walker; acclaimed writer and former politician Michael Ignatieff; notable physicist Jim Al-Khalili; actress Dame Harriet Walter, who will appear in ‘I, Clara’, together with the concert’s creator, pianist Lucy Parham; best-selling historian Alison Weir, and many others.
The Festival also offers a variety of free family-friendly events - explore the moon, watch as York scientists dissect a zombie, get your hands dirty (literally!) as you measure how well trees take up carbon, and join a chocolate tasting adventure. Come along to our Discovery Zone and Festival Family Fun Afternoon for some crafty, puzzling, scientific and historical fun!
Don’t miss acclaimed author Michael Morpurgo as he returns to the Festival for a special evening of live music, poetry and storytelling in celebration of the natural world, taking place in the stunning atmosphere of York Minster.
