About
Come and join us in the best York venues for a long weekend of sumptuous chamber music played by an acclaimed, internationally renowned team who are among the best players in the country. They are handpicked, all friends together who simply love to play! Expect great chemistry!
Much of the music in the festival was written in or about Vienna a hub of musical creativity without parallel!
In his solo recital internationally acclaimed Scottish pianist Alasdair Beatson brings to York a colourful and festive programme. Called ‘Echoes’ of Vienna’ his recital is a picture of the vibrant city, capital of the waltz, and captured in music by Schubert, Ravel and Schumann.
The other concerts in the festival use some great string players to focus on the wonderful string sextet repertoire. Our handpicked team will play four of the greatest sextets; the magical early sextet by Boccherini, Brahms’s richly glowing sextet, Richard Strauss’s sextet embedded in his last opera, Capriccio and Tchaikovsky’s joyous recollection of his favourite place in the Souvenir de Florence.
Let’s hear it for Vienna and let’s hear it for the string sextet. Last time this team played there was a standing ovation. Don’t miss it!
