About
All day, every day and many nights I battle with the wickedness beyond these walls and in my breast.
I anchor All Saints’ church, as an anchor holds a ship, against the tempests of mankind.
In a small building attached to the medieval church of All Saints North Street, a woman lived alone, dedicating her life to religious observance. Based on real historical documents, this drama written and performed by Georgina Lock imagines the thoughts of the anchoress as she recounts her life and those of women like her, who chose to be ceremonially walled up by a church until released by death.
Georgina Lock is a scriptwriter, filmmaker, actress, and independent scholar of theatre history. Georgina writes and performs solo shows about historical women who overcame the restrictions of the gender to control their own destinies.
