Still Time To Wonder. A new exhibition by Joe Cornish: Imagine a stillness which will likely never come to this place again. Through the lens of Joe Cornish, explore the tactile beauty of Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal over three years and during the silence of the coronavirus lockdown. Pick up an exhibition map from admissions and take inspiration from Joe’s work and the way both nature and man has sculpted the design of the landscape here. Have a go at snapping your own photos and visiting areas of the estate you might never have seen before. There’s a children’s trail too. Often the littlest eyes can see the most amazing things and this trail aims to engage these big imaginations. The trail will encourage the exploration of the whimsical themes in Joe’s work like hunting for hidden faces – they’re everywhere when you take the time to look!
Tree listening installation: From the 30th April to 31st July, discover what happens behind the bark of a tree with the Tree Listening Installation. Head to the sweet chestnut tree on the abbey west green and put on a pair of the hanging headphones. The highly sensitive microphones pick up the hidden sounds in the tree.
Heritage Crafts Weekend: Join our Heritage Crafts Weekend on 16th and 17th July. Celebrate our local traditional crafts, see craft makers and demonstrations at Swanley Grange workshop and in the courtyard. Free to Ripon residents on Saturday 16th July
Deer Walk: Join one of our deer walks on either 23rd July or 21st August to find out about our deer herd. Explore with our wildlife team who'll also be on hand to share their knowledge of other wildlife on the estate. Unfortunately, dogs aren’t allowed on this walk due to proximity to wildlife.
Natural Dye: On the 13th August from 12pm-4pm come and see an amazing display of natural dye at Swanley Grange.
