RHS Harlow Carr is inviting families to discover the joys of planting and harvesting vegetables this May half term, with a week of fun family activities at the Garden.
The half-term event is jam-packed with activities that will enlighten visitors on the joys of grow-your-own. From seeds and soil, and field and vine, then onto our plates – learn where fruit and veg come from and grow your very own edible feast.
Follow a trail to find the Fruit and Vegetable Superheroes, pot up your very own tomato plant to take home, and join the Garden Detectives for Edible Garden Tours or take part in the Veg Olympics. From a potato & spoon race, to a leek relay race and cabbage shotput – there’s something for every athlete!

Sow Awesome family trail
Saturday 27 May – Sunday 4 June
9.30am – 6pm, self-led trail
Follow our grow-your-own-themed trail around the garden and see if you can spot the fruit and vegetable superheroes along the way. Discover their amazing powers and find out how you can grow them at home. Suitable for all the family
Tomato planting workshop
Monday 29 May and Friday 2 June
Drop-in sessions from 10.30am – 12.30pm and 1pm – 3pm, location TBC
Come along to one of our afternoon workshops and plant a ‘Toddler’ tomato plant to take home and look after. Soon you’ll have super tasty tomatoes to harvest and eat. The plants have very kindly been donated by Burpee Europe. Recommended for ages 3+
Veg Olympics with the Garden Detectives
Tuesday 30 May and Thursday 1 June
11am – 2pm, Main Lawn
Take part in one of our vegetable-themed competitions including: a potato and spoon race, a leek relay race and cabbage shotput! Recommended for ages 3+
Edible garden tours with the Garden Detectives
Tuesday 30 May and Thursday 1 June
3pm, Kitchen Garden
Let the Garden Detectives guide you through the Kitchen Garden and show off what we are growing. Suitable for all the family
Story yoga sessions
