Malcolm Ludvigsen's art

4th May 2021 - 19th Jun 2021
Based in York, Malcolm spends much of his time on the beaches and headlands of his Yorkshire homeland, endlessly fascinated by the sea and sky. Commenting on first getting into painting, Malcolm said, "I think the thing that first attracted me to painting was John Ruskin's exhortation that all men, as part of their morning salutations, should go out and paint a picture of the sky. This sounded like a very nice thing to do, so I decided to give it a go, and I've not really stopped painting since." In 2013 Malcolm won the "Oldie British Artists Award" in a major competition for British artists age 60 or over for his landscape entitled "Filey". Ironically this accolade came in the same year that his work was rejected by the Royal Academy for their summer exhibition. The exhibition opens on Tuesday 4th May 2021, and it runs until Saturday 19th June. Aside from its regularly changing art exhibitions village gallery is York's official stockist of Lalique glass and crystal, and additionally sells a great selection of art, jewellery, ceramics, glass and sculpture, much of it the work of local artists. Village gallery is normally open Tuesday to Saturday, and can be open at other times by arrangement. In these covid times we take everyone's health seriously, have regular cleaning and disinfecting routines in place and hand sanitiser is available for visitor use. The gallery is small so to meet social distancing recommendations we can only welcome one person/family group in the shop at a time. The wearing of facemasks is now compulsory … if you are hard of hearing and need to be able to see our face to lip read, please just let us know so we can wear an appropriate visor.
