Bedern Hall, York

Do you have the courage to join us as we enter this eerie building in the former infamous area of Bedern...

For centuries, Bedern Hall served as a dining hall for the college of priests, starting from the 1390s. But in the mid-1600s, the surrounding area became a slum and dragged down the Hall’s reputation. Despite its decline, the Hall remained prominent, and some people say that the cries and screams of those who died in the area can still be heard in and around the Hall.

Ghostly sightings We have experienced many paranormal events on our previous investigations, such as soft cries, hand holding, and hair touching, and dark emotions around us. Shadows have been seen moving in the dark corners, and the spirits of children have been sensed by many guests. Spirits have come through the board sessions, setting off our electrical equipment and playing with lights. Guests have encountered a presence in the Hall that said it was a witch, other spirits do not like groups of women and some spirits will only speak to men. The mysterious events at Bedern Hall, draw us in to it's dark and sorrowful history. The unexplained sounds and a heavy door latch that moved by itself during a vigil are things we cannot explain.

The Hall has its share of dark secrets…the vicars who lived there were under great pressure and some of them began to sin. But what about the Bedern children? There is a story about a George Pymm, who ran a school and workhouse for poor and orphaned children near Bedern. The legend claims when the children died, he hid and buried them in the cupboards of the school. Many stories from Bedern and around the Hall are about children’s shadows on the walls, unseen hands touching people who walk by and the noises of screams and laughter.

This is an interactive event, and you will get to try the activities for yourselves - you will be involved in the investigation as much as you dare be!
