Join us for an evening Beacon Lighting Ceremony to mark the Queens Platinum Jubilee in the city. This short event will include a welcome from the Rt Honourable Lord Mayor of York, alongside contributions from York Pipe Band, The Band of the Yorkshire Regiment and Dunnington Community Choir.

The city Beacon Lighting is part of a nationwide series of events to mark this occasion.

9.40pm - Bugle Call entitled 'Majesty (YORKS Band, Alex Browne)

9.45pm - Lighting of the Beacon and Dunnington Community Choir to sing Song for the Commonwealth

10.00pm - Event close

The event is located on the library lawn area to the left of York Explore as you walk up to it. Through the gates is a small external area that is both grassed and gravelled.


The event venue does not have a car park however, there are two blue badge bays outside York Explore.

The closest public parking can be found at either of the following:

Bootham Row Car Park, YO30 7BP (0.3 miles) - £3.00 evening parking

NCP, Tanner Row, York YO1 6JL (0.3 miles) - £6.90 (1-2 hours)

Marygate Car Park, YO30 7DT (0.5 miles) - £3.00 evening parking

If you are arriving via taxi, drop offs can be made outside the library just off Museum Street


This is a short, open, external event and therefore no on-site toilet facilities are available. The closest toilet facility is located at St Leonard's Place public toilets, St Leonard's Place, Exhibition Square, YO1 7EW. These facilities are 0.2 miles away and will be open until 10.00pm on Thursday 2 June.
