About
The case of Angelo Notari, musician and spy
Angelo Notari was an Italian-born musician who moved to England in 1611 and made his career as a court musician under successive monarchs. Until recently, however, little was known about his life in Italy. This talk will examine Notari’s life and compositions, and examine the cases for a large number of newly attributed works, including arrangements of pieces by composers including Monteverdi and Gabrieli representing the full gamut of compositional practice in the decades around 1600.
