About

Impossible Wunder bar and Tea rooms York is the latest modern addition to iconic St Helen's square, with the heart of York's buzzing shopping and hospitality scene. This Grade II listed building is a hidden gem within the stunning twists and turns of ye olde cobbled streets. Situated within the famously beautiful Terry's chocolate orange building, the new incarnation paying homage to the historic building, notably the “Terry's” inscription still prominent the stunning front windows, showcasing Corinthian columns and ballroom style dining  and drinking areas.

The historic building has had a face lift to include a tea room, restaurant and bar, offering a beautifully crafted central island where classic cocktails have been rejuvenated with added flair and theatre to tantalise the senses. Cocktails include a sumptuously rich Terry’s chocolate orange cocktail, an eye catching colour changing gin cocktail and a refreshing lychee and hibiscus concoction complete with a rubber duck!

Impossible Wunderbar cocktails have been carefully created to marry perfectly with a bottomless brunch and afternoon tea menu of mouth-watering small plates and home-made patisseries. Our afternoon tea will be far from the norm, with our chefs carefully incorporating an array of interesting flavour combinations. Including the subtle floral flavours of York Gin’s Earl Grey variety... This is no average afternoon tea. The offering doesn’t not stop at brunch and cocktails there will be an exciting mix but includes entertainment during your visit, such as live singers, musicians and performance acts. Impossible Wunderbar and Tea rooms is not just food and drink but an experience for all the senses.

If you want something a bit special then the A la carte menu is a fusion of rustic, wood fired British cuisine drawing inspiration from far and wide. Features dishes such as the Yorkshire Venison burger served on pretzel bun with local cheddar, and an array of artisan flatbreads made fresh to order in the onsite pizza ovens.

Not forgetting the selection of generous sharing platters (if you can bring yourself to share) oozing with wintery delights perfect for  when the festivities to kick in and woolly jumpers to come out! Sharing boards include; salt baked Camembert, locally sourced delectable deli board including Yorkshire frankfurters... and to top it off ...a cheese fondue sharer! What more could you want?

A Sunday roast you say? This is one to look out for, served with all the trimmings including luxurious cheese and truffle mash, homemade Yorkshire puddings and lashings of gravy.

To finish there are beautifully crafted desserts of homemade matcha ice cream, brioche and banana bread butter pudding, handcrafted donuts and pastries. In a celebration of Sir Joseph Terry there will also be a Chocolate Assiette created by Impossible York’s very own chocolatier to round off any meal with a sweet finish.

The Grand opening is scheduled for the middle of November so keep an eye out for further information to be released very soon, reservations will be going live in the coming week!
