Located in the heart of York, this immersive tour offers an exciting and educational journey through the fascinating world of chocolate. Enjoy interactive exhibits, delicious tastings, and the chance to make your own chocolate – all wrapped in rich, local history.
At York’s Chocolate Story, taste your way through history as our entertaining tour guides lead you through the city’s sweet past and present - from the ancient origins of chocolate in the rainforests of Central America to the cobbled streets of Yorkshire. Along the way, you’ll learn about York’s most famous chocolate-making families and their iconic creations including the Chocolate Orange and the world-famous KitKat.
But the experience doesn’t stop there! Roll up your sleeves and decorate your very own chocolate lolly, complete with your choice of toppings and packaging to take home. You’ll also enjoy a live demonstration from one of our expert chocolatiers, before heading down to our café and gift shop, where you’ll find a tempting selection of chocolate treats and indulgent drinks.

- What are your opening hours?
Our daily opening ours are 10am - 5pm, however during peak periods and holidays, extended hours may apply - please check the booking page for more details.
Please note: We're closed on 24th, 25th, & 26th December and 1st January.
- How long do your experiences last?
Our experience durations are as follows:
Classic Guided Tour - approximately 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes
Tour & Truffle Rolling - approximately 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes
Gin & Rum Tours - approximately 1 hour 30 minutes
VIP Masterclass - approximately 2 hours
Family Masterclass (available during school holidays) - approximately 1 hour 30 minutes

- Can I visit the shop or café without booking a tour?
Yes absolutely! Customers are welcome to purchase a takeaway drink from our café or browse our shop whenever we are open.
- Is there a car park on site at the attraction?
Due to our attraction being located in York City Centre, there is no onsite car park. Shambles Q Park, YO1 7NT is the closest nearby car park which is roughly a 5 minute walk away (car parking prices can be found on their website).

- What age do you recommend for the guided tour?
We suggest the Guided Tour for guests aged 4 and above. Children under 4 are welcome to visit for free. While they still need a ticket for entry, you can easily add a complimentary ticket during the booking process on our website booking page here.
- Does the Guided Tour cater for allergies/dietary requirements?
We can accommodate a range of dietary needs on our Guided Tour. This includes nut, soy, gluten, or dairy allergies, and a vegan diet. While we strive to offer alternative samples or dark chocolate substitutes whenever possible, please be aware that as we operate an open kitchen, we cannot guarantee the absence of traces. - Is the Guided Tour wheelchair accessible?
Each Guided Tour is accessible for one wheelchair with lift access throughout the attraction. If you have any accessibility needs, please speak to our Reservations Team prior to placing a booking. You can call them on 01904 527765 or email info@yorkschocolatestory.com. For those with accessibility requirements we recommend booking in advance. Without an advance booking guests may need to wait a considerable time to start a tour.

- Are Masterclasses wheelchair accessible?
Unfortunately we do not have a wheelchair lift available to access our downstairs function room where our Chocolate Masterclasses are held (this applies to all seasonal masterclasses too i.e summer masterclass). We do however have wheelchair access on our 1st floor where our VIP Chocolate Masterclasses take place.
