The historic Principal York hotel is adjacent to the train station and enjoys views across its private gardens to stunning York Minster. Originally opened in 1878, the hotel’s impressive heritage is immediately apparent from the yellow Scarborough brick and impressive Tadcaster stone dressing.
A multi-million pound investment in 2015 has restored the hotel to its original splendour: luxuriously appointed bedrooms and bathrooms radiate from the splendid, sweeping main staircase; elegant, high-ceilinged public spaces and banqueting rooms sit alongside the stunning Garden Room, which is perfect for Afternoon Tea or a glass of Champagne. In addition, a brand new restaurant – The Kitchen & Terrace – opened in November 2015, serving fresh, seasonal, local produce under the watchful steer of Executive Chef Jason Wardill; whilst next door to the restaurant is Chapter House bar, serving cocktails, craft ales and snacks.
Every element of the bedrooms and bathrooms has been enhanced during the renovation, from new bed linen to bathroom amenities to upgraded, superfast, free Wi-Fi. Respectful of its past but focused on the well-being of the modern, The Principal York combines the best of old and new with a genuinely warm welcome and authentic sense of place.
