Hart Lake Escapes is a selection of five individually themed and beautifully appointed boutique shepherd huts, made especially for two people, each nestled in woodland around a small private lake on the outskirts of the Historic City of York. Family run and set within the owner’s home grounds, an old hunting lodge dating back to the Duke of Sutherland, you can be assured of a warm welcome on arrival and a personal touch throughout your stay. The huts are fitted out to a high standard each having their own private kitchen and ensuite facilities, log burner, barbecue, wood fired hot tub and outside seating area situated overlooking the lake. If you can drag yourself away from the beautiful surroundings, Hart Lake Escapes is ideally located to visit many places in North Yorkshire, including York (5 miles from the City Walls), which is only a 15-minute bus journey away with all its history, tourist attractions, shopping and nightlife.Yorkshire Coastliner stops outside the property at the Four Alls stop twice an hour with the last bus back from York being 23:26. You pretty much have your own 'Park and Ride'.

In the opposite direction, the Howardian Hills are a 13-minute drive away, encompassing the famously renowned Castle Howard, with its acres of garden and woodland, stately home, coffee shop, garden centre and farm shop. Another few minutes further along, brings you to the pretty market town of Malton, famous for its weekend markets and food festivals (bus also available). Again all this can be accessed by the Yorkshire Coastliner and the Castleline.

If however the seaside is calling you, you are spoilt for choice along the East coast with the coastal towns of Bridlington, Filey, Robin Hoods Bay, Scarborough and Whitby (to name a few!) all within 45-60 minutes drive, with the latter two also being accessible by bus from outside the property.

• North Yorkshire Moors National Park
• North Yorkshire Moors Railway
• York’s museums and York Minster
• Harrogate, Thirsk, Northallerton, Helmsley all within 30-45 mins drive
• Walking and cycling routes
• Vanguarde and Monks Cross Shopping Parks, which includes eateries such as Prezzo, Nandos and Costa – all within a five-minute drive
• York Community Stadium Leisure Complex home to York City FC and York City Knights along with gym, fitness classes and swimming facilities, again five minutes away by car
• Hollywood Bowl, Cineworld and ‘Puttstars’ also all available at the Vanguarde site for those rainy day activities
