Fascinating tales, awe-inspiring architecture and intriguing, rare artefacts…explore this stunning timber framed building - the inspirational home to The Company of Merchant Adventurers of the City of York. Discover the Hall and delve into York’s entrepreneurial past, present and future following stories of the “mystery of mercers” - business pioneers who made it happen: from the medieval wool trade, via the railways, chocolate and two universities to the 21st century Science City. Also enjoy a locally roasted coffee, freshly baked sumptuous cakes & snacks or a light lunch in our Merchants’ Coffee House.
The Hall is open for general admissions with the option of a free audio or written guide. No advanced booking is required.

The Two Rivers Trail
Monday 4th April 2022 to Friday 31st March 2023
Follow The Two Rivers trail at the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall and discover the legacy of the rivers of York.
Without the River Ouse and River Foss; the Merchant Adventurers, their Hall and the City of York would not exist. Through this trail and the Hall’s unique collections, explore the legacy of the rivers from fortune and flood, exploration and opportunity to fashion and commerce.
The trail allows you to explore the history of the rivers in more depth by using your smart phone or tablet. By scanning QR codes along the trail, discover new stories and photos of how the two rivers of York intertwine with the lives of its inhabitants.
