Have a hell raising Halloween in York, the UK’s most haunted city. There are all sorts of ghostly goings on this year, with much more to be discovered on our hideous Halloween page.

Indie York Medieval and Magical Treasure Hunt and The Little York Ghost Hunt

Indie York bring you a fantastic trail around York’s streets and snickelways, along which you will discover the city's medieval and magical highlights, as well it’s many independent businesses. The trail is broken down into nine clusters across Acomb, Bishy Road, the Fifth Quarter (Gillygate and Bootham), Fossgate and Walmgate, Goodramgate, Micklegate, The Shambles, Stonegate and Petergate, and York Central. Each cluster has its own set of clues for you to crack, and a magical object to find.

Alongside this, The York Ghost Merchants are running The Little York Ghost Hunt, 5pm – 7pm, 26-30 October, a nightly quest to find some Little York Ghosts around the ancient and atmospheric streets that flank the mighty York Minster. There are 60 ghosts hiding in nooks and crannies each night. Maps for the Medieval and Magical Treasure Hunt and The Little York Ghost Hunt can be picked up for free from the Visit York Visitor Information Centre.

The York Dungeon

Few things could be more appropriate for Halloween than a deep delve into York’s darkest history at The York Dungeon. You’ll have a terrifying encounter with a witch in the Castle Dungeon, a trip to a horrifically haunted pub, and all manner of other spooks and scares from the city’s more sinister past.

York Mumbler Goblin Trail at Rowntree Park

An unfortunate creature has been struck by a pine cone and forgotten their own name. Can you help the smelly green Goblin find his friends at Rowntree Park to make him remember? York Mumbler gives you this great alternative to trick or treating for 2020. Find the goblin houses, spot the clues, and save the day!

Hallowtween at York Maze

Hallowtween is a frighteningly fun event aimed at families with children aged 10-15 who are too old for trick or treating, and are ready to take on a more exciting experience. You’ll need to keep your wits about you as you dare to enter the four haunted houses of Corny’s Cornevil, Barnaggedon 3D, The Singularity and The Flesh Pot. After its huge success last year, Hallowtween returns with even more freaky thrills.
