Blue Boar

Cask marque pub of the year

The Blue Boar is a traditional British alehouse dating to the early 1700s and only a stone's throw away from Clifford's Tower, Castle Museum & Coppergate Shopping Centre. Our friendly, helpful staff can help you pick one of our award-winning cask ales sourced from all over Yorkshire and the rest of the country. Delicious, freshly cooked and locally sourced meals are served every day from 12 to 9.30pm. We also boast weekly Poker, Quiz and Live Music nights and a free-to-hire function room. Visit the resting place of Dick Turpin - the famous highwayman, laid to rest in our vaulted cellars in 1739.

The Blue Boar - one of the oldest Public House names in Britain - is perfect for resting weary legs and refuelling before another trip round York's fantastic shopping streets. We are proud to serve meals sourced from David Swain, Butchers of York until 9.30pm every evening. Our traditional cask ales are sourced with care and kept by our very own Master Cellarman to ensure the perfect pint every time. If you're unsure of which one to try our friendly staff will guide you towards a great choice, or you can enjoy three ales for the price of one with our cask ale bats. With wine sourced from France, Italy, California and Chile and a full range of hot & soft drinks there is something for every occasion and taste.

We hold weekly events that are very popular with York's locals and tourists alike. If you want to meet like-minded people and get to know the people of York there's no better opportunity!

Monday - Poker Night - 7.45pm
A friendly game of Texas Hold 'Em Poker with cash prizes - beginners and experienced players are very welcome to these relaxed, fun evenings.

Wednesday - Quiz Night - 8pm
Well known as York's most entertaining Pub Quiz, you won't be short of a laugh or two with Quiz Master Pybus! Questions aren't too testing and cover a wide range of topics including picture and music rounds. Free sweets are given to newcomers and there's a gallon of ale & £100 to win every week.

Friday - Live Music - 9pm
York's best solo and duo acts perform every Friday night to get your weekend off to a flying start. A cosy, inviting and friendly atmosphere makes The Blue Boar's Friday night music sessions the perfect setting for a candle-lit evening with friends.
