From the world's greatest treasures to the smallest curiosities, York Minster is one of the world's most magnificent cathedrals, with foundations rooted in the nation's earliest history. Explore a masterpiece in stained glass and stone, its vast spaces alive with the sanctity and tradition of worship and heavenly music. Or explore the quiet corners revealing unexpected stories and human inspiration, what will you discover?

Enter the Orb, a dome of discovery and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see, at close range, some of the world's most important art. Within this elliptical treasure-house of stained glass you will discover a forgotten artist for the first time - England's lost Vermeer or Michelangelo. Explore new interactive galleries illustrating the epic stories and craftsmanship of the magnificent Great East End, all part of the York Minster Revealed project.

Take a two-thousand year journey through time in Revealing York Minster in the Undercroft. Follow in the footsteps of Roman soldiers and discover the stories of some of the people whose lives have been influenced by York Minster. The underground chambers have been totally transformed with dynamic new audio-visual and interactive galleries revealing the significance behind the cathedral's most treasured artefacts as never before.

Explorer Backpacks are available to younger visitors and contain everything a young detective needs to uncover secrets and surprises. There's free discovery trails and make a new friend with the Minster's own Monkey, Monty. After all that exploring relax in the children's chapel with a book from the story chest.

Take the 275 steps up the Central Tower leading you to the highest point in the city and the best views of York.

All year round, there is also a magnificent programme of special events, including performances by the Minster Choir, one of the UK's leading choirs and family hands-on fun with Monty the Monkey.

Listed as one of the History and Heritage Experiences in Visit England's '101 things to do before you go abroad.'

Recommended by Wallace & Gromit as one of the 'Cracking things to see and do.'

The local legend about the 'Heart of Yorkshire' window, which is a part of the cathedral's Great West Window, states that all the loved up couples to kiss under the window will stay together forever...
