York Maze 2012

One of York's most popular summer attractions will be open once again in July ready to baffle visitors with its' new design. Carved out of an amazing 1.5 million growing maize plants York Maze is thought to be the largest maze in the world! As well as the maze there are fun and games for all ages, including an adventure playground, 9 hole crazy golf course, a chance to meet all the animals that eat the maize and watch pig racing! Why not play "Water Wars" or take a tractor and trailer ride round the maze, then take a break in the café or browse our fantastic gift shop.

New for 2012

So the cat is out of the bag !! The 2012 maze is the "Mayan" maze, designed in the image of the god of corn " yum kaax"!! Like us at York maze, the Mayans worshipped maize plants, and saw the plants as resembling the cycle of human life. Yum kaax was seen as the god of new beginnings, which is apt for 2012, as it is a momentous year in the Mayan calendar. Some doom mongers say it points to the world ending, but here at the maze we share the views of the Mayan elders, who say it signals a shift or change, and a new beginning. Hence the 2012 Mayan maze !!
