Hints & Tips
Struggling with your entry?
We know that sometimes application forms can be a little daunting, so we have listed a few hints and tips that will help you to write an award winning entry.
Tips to Remember
Read the questions - read all the questions to gain an understanding of what the judges are hoping to read from your entry.
Answer the questions - answer all the questions clearly and concisely - give the judges a sense of what was innovative or creative.
Keep it simple and clear - be clear, specific and structured. Ensure your entry is concise and easy to understand. Focus on the facts, avoid jargon and be consistent. Make it easy for the judges to spot what is important.
Draft - write a draft entry first and email it to others in the business who can act as a fresh pair of eyes and flag up anything you may have forgotten or taken for granted.
Evidence - provide evidence to support your answers. Include measurable outcomes such as increased revenue, return on investment, increase in business backed up by some facts and figures. Be sure to label the evidence and reference it within your answers.
Honesty - be honest. No business or individual is perfect. Address challenges and don't be afraid to highlight how the business has tackled challenges and issues.
Supporting documents - make sure supporting documents are relevant and do not include extra information just for the sake of it.
Be fervent - your entry should show how passionate you are about what you have achieved. Your entry should show why your business is important and what has been achieved.
Proof read - check it through carefully and afford it the same attention to detail as you do to other areas of your business.
Give it to someone else to read carefully - ideally someone who is not as close to your business as you are, to check that they get a good understanding of your business from it.
Start early - try not to leave it until the last minute. Start early to give yourself plenty of time to put together a well thought out and structured entry.
Don't be afraid to ask - if you're unsure about any of the questions and want guidance on what to include please give Visit York a call on 01904 554458
