Promotional space in the heart of the city

Have you thought about running a sampling session, a sports activity, or even bringing part of your attraction into the city centre? From the UK’s biggest sleepover by Ikea to Disney’s Toy Clinic, successful companies are using experiential marketing to build their brands.

You too can put on an experiential marketing activity and we can help…

York is a prime destination for promotional activities, with guaranteed footfall.

Guaranteed because the city attracts 6.9 million visitors a year and because 4.5 million residents live within an hour’s drive. York City Centre is home to street stalwarts – Marks and Spencer, Fenwick and Browns, along with many other independent and chain brands.

As a valued member of Visit York, we’re now offering preferential rates for your business to use the city centre as a promotional space. For example Parliament Street could host your experiential marketing activity, enabling you to reach a weekly audience of 168,000.

Why not raise your brand awareness and engage directly with your customers in Parliament Street, St Sampson’s Square or St Helen’s Square?  Space can be booked from as little as £320.

To find out more about promotional space in York City Centre please get in touch: Rachel Walker, City Centre Executive, Make It York. Tel: 07887 588993.

York Hive

York’s very own crowdfunding platform, York Hive, is a new initiative for the city. York Hive is part of Spacehive, a national crowdfunding platform with a purpose; to make it as easy as possible for as many people as possible to bring their civic environment to life.

The crowdfunding concept works by providing tools that help people to develop their project ideas, get noticed by crowds of people, companies, councils, and the media and attract funding to make great local projects happen. The York Hive will enable local people to see York Projects online and pledge as little as £2 to make a project possible.

To find out more and to submit your own project, please visit York Hive.

York Bid

York BID news

Businesses in York have voted YES to a Business Improvement District in the city centre. A not-for-profit BID company will now be formed to carry out a wide range if improvements and services from April 2016.
The York BID has been established following more than a year of consultations with businesses across York. The yes vote was secured after a higher than average turnout of 42% of York city centre businesses with 76% voting to establish a Business Improvement District for York.
Establishing the BID will create a fund of around £4m to spend on a series of projects and services over the next five years. The money will be raised by charging a 1% levy on the rateable value of each business premise in the city centre.

The York BID team will now begin work on setting up the company, recruiting a BID Director and preparing to start delivering services from next April.

If you want to know more about the York BID, go to or contact Steve Hughes, the project manager at, or telephone 01904 554448.
