York – the Original City Adventure

In January we launched phase one of our ‘York- the Original City Adventure’ campaign, which was a government funded burst of marketing activity, following the Boxing Day flooding. Part of a £1m campaign to encourage British families and couples to spend their Half Term and Easter holidays in the North, the results of this campaign are in and can be viewed here.
Phase Two – ‘York - the Original City Adventure’
Key ingredients in our new marketing campaign (for 2016/2017), supported by City of York Council, North Yorkshire County Council and Virgin Trains East Coast, will include:
• A brand new adventure video
• A new self-guided Selfie Trail
• National media partnership
• Dedicated PR campaign - 'Yorkie - the Travelogue Dog'
York the Original City Adventure shortlisted for TWO awards!
Our recent campaign is now on the list of finalists for both the Travel Marketing Awards and the CIM Awards (Chartered Institute of Marketing) in London later this spring. Watch this space....!
PR Campaign - 'Yorkie - the Travelogue Dog'
To support our two year marketing campaign, we implemented a two month PR campaign to compliment the 'adventure' theme and encourage people to come to York and North Yorkshire.
Yorkie the Travelogue Dog was born.
Throughout the three-part short film series, Yorkie our intrepid Yorkshire Terrier, explores many parts of York and North Yorkshire, taking viewers on his adventures.
The campaign has been extremely successful, achieving national, regional and local press coverage, along with radio interviews and fantastic engagement on the Visit York social media channels.

Classic FM - Breakfast with Tim Lihoreau, live from York
We had over 6,000 entries to the online competition which we ran with Classic FM. Tim Lihoreau enticed listeners to enter two competitions – winning Tea at Bettys Café Tea Rooms, York Mystery Plays tickets and a two night break to York…… all in the lead up to the live broadcast from York on 10 June. Thanks to York Minster and the Festival of Ideas for their support.
