Get Ready For Christmas!

York Launches New St Nicholas Christmas Festival

27 November – 21 December (Incorporating the St Nicholas Fair)

We’re delighted to announce that Christmas in York this year will be even more special. Activities will run from November right through to Christmas and into the New Year; all part of the new ‘York St Nicholas Christmas Festival’.

This year will see a step change in York’s offer, where for the first time the popular St Nicholas Fair, organised by City of York Council, will run for a full 25 days from Thursday 27 November through to Sunday 21 December. In addition to this a host of festive events at York’s visitor attractions, as well as the daily Newgate market, Made in Yorkshire art and craft market at the Guildhall and Barley Hall Festive Market will all go towards making up York’s St Nicholas Festival programme.

York is rebranding its Christmas offer to encourage visitors to come and stay throughout the whole festive season. Extra decorations and events will be backed by extended Park&Ride bus services on Thursdays to support late night shopping, which is being co-ordinated by the Retailers’ Forum. The St Nicholas Festival will light up York even more from the Christmas lights turning on in St Helen’s Square on 20 November, right up until Christmas Eve.
