Latest Tourism Intelligence - February 2014
Following on from the positive start to the year in January, February has seen added growth across the sectors, with hotel room occupancy year to date now 9% higher than in the first two months of 2013, visits to the large attractions up by 5% and visits to the small attractions up by 17% over the same time period. Hotel room occupancy exceeded the highest February figure and was recorded at 77% this year - 5% higher than in February 2013. Until now the highest ever February occupancy figure recorded stood at 76% (in 2012). Average room rates for February also grew compared to February 2013, up by 4% to £72.27.
Visits to the large attractions dipped slightly this year, down by 3% vs last February (to 185,846 visitors), however, visits to the small attractions had increased, by 2% vs February 2013 (to 17,560 visitors).
