Latest Tourism Intelligence - November 2014
Tourism performance in November was slightly below Nov 2013, with visits to attractions down by 12%, hotel room occupancy 2% lower (to 81.5%) and footfall in the Visit York Information Centre 8% lower. However, average room rates remained strong in hotels; 10% higher than the previous November, at £86.35 and sessions on visityork.org and enquiries through VisitYork4Meetings were both up by 44% and 38% respectively.
For the year to date (Jan 2014-Nov 2014) room occupancy remained strong - up 3% on January to November 2013 - and room rates for the same period were up by 7% year on year. Visits to attractions are slightly down, by 6% for the year to date, however, it is encouraging to see visits to attractions figures remaining so close to the record figures reached in 2013. Both city centre footfall and visits to the Information Centre have remained strong vs January to November 2013, as have sessions on visityork.org and enquiries to the VisitYork4Meetings conference desk.
