Latest Tourism Intelligence - February 2015

February 2015 results are now in and the majority of key performance indicators have shown positive growth compared with February 2014, in particular there was good news for the attractions, visityork.org, VisitYork4meetings and for city centre footfall.

There were 253,401 visits to attractions in February, 15% more than this time last year. Several attractions welcomed increased visitor numbers during the Residents’ Festival and for other events (including the JORVIK Viking Festival) over half term. Visits to attractions made with a York Pass also grew from last year, up by 8% to 4,498.

71.9% of hotel rooms were occupied in February, which is slightly lower (down 3%*) than in the same month last year. Average room rates stayed strong and grew by 4% * to £70.82.

Sessions on visityork.org continued to increase year on year and in February were up 11% compared with February 2014, to 173,066 sessions.

As well a higher number of conference and event enquiries this year (up from 24 to 35), the number of confirmed bookings in February was more than double than were confirmed last year (7 vs 3).

There was also growth in the city centre footfall (of 10%) and a steady number of customers to the Visit York Information Centre (29,199, similar to February 2014).
