Head of Consumer Products & Marketing– Make it York
With over 20 years in the tourism sector Kate McMullen was appointed Head of Visit York in September 2013 and was responsible for leading an expert team of 30 staff and 40 volunteers, who market York as a Leisure and Business destination to over 6.7 million visitors per year who contribute £563 million to the York economy. Visit York has grown its membership to over 700 businesses and Kate’s role also involves securing and managing funding streams from the both public and private sector.
With the creation of Make It York in April 2015, Kate’s role as Head of Consumer products and Marketing sees her retain the Visit York responsibilities as well as leading on the work of the Events and Festivals and City Centre and Markets teams.
Kate joined Visit York in 1999 and as the Head of Marketing and was responsible for taking Visit York through a decade of change, successfully positioning the Visit York brand, consistently analysing market intelligence, implementing all consumer and travel trade marketing and developing a strong social media strategy. Prior to joining Visit York, Kate began her tourism career with Superbreak, one of the market leaders for both UK and European short breaks.
