A new festive fair promoting Yorkshire’s young entrepreneurs is set to entice shoppers to the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall on the first weekend of York’s St Nicholas Fair.
The Young Merchants’ Market will showcase businesses established by under 30’s in the region as well as highlighting Young Enterprise projects being run by pupils from schools in York and North Yorkshire.
All proceeds raised from the Fair are in aid of the York Company of Merchant Adventurers’ Charitable Education Trust. The Company of Merchant Adventurers of the City of York has a long and prestigious history in promoting enterprise and trade. Centuries ago these merchants or ‘Adventurers’ became the most influential citizens in the city and today, through the Trust, the Company works with many York and North Yorkshire schools to foster links between education and commerce. It seeks to identify, encourage and inspire young entrepreneurs through their work with national education charities such as Young Enterprise and the North Yorkshire Business Education Partnership.
The Fair will have the usual mix of food, drinks and handmade gifts however the Young Merchants’ Market will also celebrate and reward the businesses exhibiting. Judges from the Merchant Adventurers and Local businesses will present awards for Best Business Concept, Best Business Marketing Campaign, Best Business Brand, Best Business Stand and Best Young Enterprise project. The prizes will range from a small cash injection for the Best Young Enterprise project to mentoring time with some of York’s successful entrepreneurs for the best marketing campaign and brand awards.
The Governor of the York Merchant Adventurers, Dr Alan Suggett is delighted to be holding such a unique event at the Hall noting that, “The Young Merchants’ Market showcases the skill, creativity and enterprise of young people from the region whilst also providing a wonderful opportunity for shoppers to find gift inspiration for Christmas.”
The Young Merchant’s Market will take place on Saturday 29th November from 11.00am - 3.00pm.
