Tweet All About It - Visit York Launches Search To Find People's Favourite York Experience

21/03/2011

The people's top ten favourite visitor experiences in York have been revealed today.  Part of the annual Visit York Tourism Awards, this new award category, ‘My York Favourite,' has generated ideas from across the globe.

York fans in the United States, the Netherlands, Australia, South Africa, Italy, Germany and Spain as well as closer to home in London, the Midlands, Scotland and across the UK have all sent their nominations and ideas to the city's official tourism agency.

Thousands of nominations have now been whittled down to a shortlist of just ten:  afternoon tea at Bettys; a stroll on the city walls; a scary ghost walk; Jorvik's annual Viking festival; a day at the world's largest railway museum; exploring the Shambles and picturesque streets; enjoying York's distinctive range of shops; a trip back in time at York Castle Museum; family fun at Europe's largest maize maze and an awe inspiring visit to York Minster.

A Facebook and Twitter campaign has now been launched by Visit York to determine the people's number one favourite York experience.  So which would you choose?

Do you love to shop till you drop or simply gaze in amazement at York Minister? Does a trip to York Castle Museum fill you with nostalgia or would you prefer just to get lost in York's gigantic maize maze? The winning experience will be announced as one of thirteen awards in Visit York's annual Tourism Awards.

Gillian Cruddas MBE, Chief Executive of Visit York said, ‘by using social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter we hope to generate thousands of votes for the coveted ‘My York Favourite' award.  The aim is to generate a huge online conversation with people from across the UK and overseas.  We're really excited to see how the public will vote.'

The choice is yours, so get voting.  Votes can be cast on www.facebook.com/visityork and at www.twitter.com/visityork. Votes can also be made in person or posted to Visit York, 1, Museum Street, York, YO1 6WR.  Voting will close on 28th March.
