The clocks have turned back but there's no need to be afraid of the dark in York

02/11/2010

Visit York is encouraging people around the UK who find themselves struggling to cope with the clocks going back and the dark autumn evenings to turn a negative into a positive - by visiting York.  ‘York - A Break With Tradition', is a new marketing and PR campaign being launched by Visit York this week.  The campaign will entice visitors to book their next Autumn/Winter break in York.

Gillian Cruddas, Chief Executive of Visit York said, ‘York offers visitors a real break with tradition as historic architecture and cultural visitor attractions such as York Minster and the world's largest railway museum sit side by side with contemporary art exhibitions, cutting-edge art installations, boutique shops, fashionable bars and modern restaurants.  We hope our new campaign will get across the breadth of cultural experiences on offer for visitors to York.'

Visit York aims to entice people to blow those autumnal cobwebs away with a special 'Break With Tradition' offer of a special three nights for the price of two at participating hotels and guest houses. Alongside a host of other food, drink and shopping offers from businesses throughout the city and a number of exciting events and activities, Visit York will be sending out a message across the UK that there has never been a better time to take an Autumn or Winter break here.

Following the success of the Illuminating York Festival, York's Christmas programme of events will soon get underway with the St Nicholas Christmas Fayre in November.  As well as promoting the architectural gems of the city, Visit York will also be encouraging Christmas shoppers to head to the streets voted the most photogenic and fashionable in the UK (the Shambles and Stonegate) and have a meal along one of the UK's best restaurant streets, Fossgate.

Visit York's new marketing campaign will be using a mix of traditional and online marketing; twitter and facebook offers and a public relations campaign targeting media across the UK.

Gillian Cruddas, Chief Executive of Visit York said, "We could all do with a little pick me up at this time of year and a visit to York could be just the tonic. We want everyone to know that York successfully combines its clear sense of heritage and superb architecture with designer shops, world class galleries and museums, sophisticated restaurants, bars and cafes. Easy access from many of the UK's main regional centres and Visit York's two nights for the price of three special deal means it couldn't be easier for visitors to enjoy a unique weekend away in our exceptional city this autumn."

Visit York's three nights for the price of two offer is available at participating hotels and guest houses between 1 November and the end of March 2011.  Telephone the Visit York Information Centre on 0190 550088 and quote 'York - A Break With Tradition', when booking or visit www.visityork.org/3for2  for details of this and other shopping, food and drink offers during this period.  ENDS
